Live-in Respite Care for Seniors – Temporary Caregiving Relief
ALHomecare provides both long term and short term (i.e. respite) live-in care.
ALHomecare’s long-term live-in homecare service is our most affordable option starting at 599 euro per week with accommodation and food for the carer. This is our most popular option for families who are looking for ongoing care for their elderly loved one. Please see the Our Prices page for full information on the costs.
If you only need a carer for a week or two (or up to 12 weeks) then our live-in respite care service is the best option for you. With live-in respite care from ALHomecare, the older person can avoid the need for nursing home or residential care. They can stay in the comfort and familiarity of their own home with the one-to-one care of a live-in carer or live-in nurse from ALHomecare, the live-in care specialists.
The carer or nurse is there in the house at night for the older person’s comfort and reassurance and in case of an emergency and then by day they do house-keeping, meal preparation, companionship, personal care, medication supervision etc.
Live-in Respite Care
This involves a live-in carer taking care of an older person while their long term carer takes a holiday or just has a rest. Sometimes the long term carer is a professional carer. Other times it is a relative of the older person who is the long term carer. In any case, every carer needs a break. This is why holiday cover and respite care is so important and ALHomecare is glad to offer this service to families.
Live-in Convalescence Care
This involves a live-in carer taking care of an older person who has just been discharged from hospital and needs care at home for 1 week up to a few months to fully recover.
These short respite/convalescence placements are 1 to 12 weeks in duration. Minimum is 5 days. Carer sleeps in every night of the placement.

All our carers are Garda-vetted, reference checked and provided with ongoing training and support.

Part 3: Payroll Service Cost
You, the family, must register as the Carer's employer and arrange for payslip(s) to be issued. If you don't have an accountant, we can recommend a very good payroll service that can take care of this payroll admin for you.
The payroll service will do the following for you:
- Register you as the Carer's employer,
- Issue the payslip(s),
- Organise the Revenue returns
- At the end of the placement, close off the employment and de-register you as the Carer's employer.
There is a once off set up fee of 75 euro plus VAT at 23% to register you as the Carer's employer and then 60 euro plus VAT at 23% per payslip issued. You can deregister yourself as the employer at the end of the placement or the payroll service can do this for you for 50 euro plus VAT at 23%.
Note:
ALHomecare’s 3-week trial period doesn’t apply to holiday cover or respite placements.
Our placement fee and payroll fee are non-refundable once the placement starts.
A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the placement fee is required when the respite cover request has been accepted by ALHomecare. This deposit is discounted from the placement fee. The balance of the placement fee i.e. the other 50% is payable before the carer starts the placement.
